DIY Upgrade

Summary

My 2013 Dodge Avenger SE has been faithful to me eve since I got it as my first car in 2016. It drives great, and has withstood many miles driving to the White Mountians, Adirondacks, the Outer Banks, and between home and Boston. However, it has always had one deficiency to me: the radio. A standard CD player and AM/FM radio, I had to use an aux cord with Apple adapter to play music. This required me to have a wireless charging stand to hold my phone to avoid it dying and to use GPS. This caused a lot of clutter and hassle. Therefore, I decided to put my soldering skills to use and install my own carplay system. As shown in the pictures below, this required disassembing the center console, soldering the appropriate harness adapters together, then reinstalling the new system. This resulted in a much cleaner system with much more capability than before. Years later this replacement is still functioning flawlessly.
